Don’t Frack With Your Granny

Last night I attended the press night of Fracked! A comedy starring Dinner Ladies legend Anne Reid and New Tricks star James Bolam! A comedy about Fracking . . . I was dubious about how this was going to go but I absolutely LOVED It!

A couple of minutes into the show Anne Reid was heckling in the audience and emerged onto stage which is when it all began! The idyllic english village Fenstock is under attack from potential Fracking so Elizabeth (Anne Reid) takes things into her own hands and goes from an obedient retired senior citizen to an angry protester trying to save her village! Joined on stage by on-screen husband Jack (James Bolam) a grumpy old man set in his ways and not really bothered what is going on in the village.

The staging was fantastic! A revolving stage meant within seconds we were in a different location, primarily the home of Elizabeth & Jack and the offices of the PR firm who are representing Deerland Energy (the potential Frackers!)

Harry Hadden-Paton’s portrayal of PR Consultant Joe was one of my favourite characters! Being a blogger I deal with a lot of PR companies so can really relate to some of the ways in which he was acting! Hilarious throughout and the use of the F bomb was frequent as FUCK!

Steven Roberts had a small role but probably got the most laughs during his time on stage as a waiter. He reminded me of the iconic Julie Walters scene “2 Soups” hilarious! I think I’ve seen him in another show as he looked very familiar.

This is a comedy which can be appreciated by all audiences, young and old as the jokes and gags are obvious and current (also local to the area the show is being shown, e.g. a joke about how AWFUL Southern Rail are!)

Fracked! is at Theatre Royal Brighton until Saturday 6th May with shows every evening at 7:45pm and 2 matinees Thurs/Sat at 2.30pm. Click Here to book.

I adore James Bolam and Anne Reid! I’ve not been to a comedy show for ages, but now I’m super tempted to book myself some tickets and go and watch 🙂 x
