Thoroughly Modern Millie | Theatre Royal Brighton

Last night I sent “Modish Mother” aka my mum to the Theatre Royal Brighton to review Thoroughly Modern Millie which is on its uk tour visiting several theatres across the country.

The winner of six Tony Awards including Best Musical, THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE is based on the 1967 Academy Award-winning film, taking you back to the height of the Jazz Age in New York City, when ‘moderns’ including a flapper named Millie Dillmount were bobbing their hair, raising their hemlines, entering the workforce and rewriting the rules of love.

The main role of Millie was played by Joanne Clifton, famous for her time on Strictly Come Dancing as one of the professionals! Most recently winning the 2016 series with celebrity Ore Oduba. Clifton has also appeared in numerous theatre productions including the Norma Jean Musical as leading lady Marilyn Monroe.

“The storyline is very much the same as the film, however I LOVED the musical and seeing it live on stage made it seem so much more real! The chemistry between Millie (Joanne Clifton) and Jimmy (Sam Barrett) was excellent and seeing them come together on stage was great!

I have always loved the 1920s so the costumes for the show were beautiful and really transfixed you into thinking it was the 20s. Also the sets were brilliant in helping you visualise 1920s hotel and clubs etc.

Having only ever see Clifton on stage dancing, it was great to hear her singing voice which was absolutely fantastic! I didn’t know what to expect but couldn’t fault it in any way.

If you’re a fan of singing, dancing, love and comedy then Thoroughly Modern Millie is definitely for you! My husband even enjoyed it and the audience gave a standing ovation it was so good!”

Thoroughly Modern Millie is at the Theatre Royal Brighton until Saturday 8th April with shows every evening at 7:30pm and 2 matinees Weds/Sat at 2.30pm. Click Here to book.
