In March I took my mum to London for her Birthday/Mother’s day treat, we stayed at the newly opened 5 star riverside InterContinental® London – The O2 hotel, I chose this hotel as It’s only a stone’s throw away from the O2 Arena where we were seeing Adele that same evening.
As I made reservations before the hotel had officially opened I got the “BE OUR FIRST GUEST” rate which meant breakfast was included, a late check out time of 2pm was included and It also meant I received a further 5,000 IHG reward club points to my IHG account on top of the points already received for the actual room booking. The 2 bed Superior room cost in total £196 for the 1 night (Tuesday night) which I thought was great value.
Before our stay I had emailed the Guest Relations team to ask a few questions re breakfast opening times, which is when I started speaking with Dov one of the Guest Relation Executives who so kindly organised a special treat for my mother in our room in the form of a cake which was absolutely delicious.
The taxi from London Bridge station cost £46, however North Greenwich Tube Station is located 400m from the hotel if you wanted to travel via Tube.
As soon as we entered the hotel we were welcomed by the Hotel Doorman and one of the Hotel Porters “Mohammed” who took our bags which he later delivered to our room, very nice man who was very engaging and spoke to us about our stay.
Check in was very fast, and they had actually upgraded our room which was a lovely surprise, we stayed on the 8th floor with great views of the O2 Arena. The reception staff were all very welcoming and have a wealth of knowledge re the hotel.
The room was the pinnacle of luxury, very spacious, minimalistic and every amenity was provided in the room: Complimentary water, tea/coffee making facilities, fulling stocked fridge, hair dryer, full size ironing board & iron, toiletries the list is endless. The room featured large floor to ceiling windows and an absolutely great view of the O2 Arena to the left, and the river to the right. The bathroom was probably my favourite room, and I made sure I took full advantage of the spacious bath and shower during my stay. Our room had a large flat screen television which included all Free View channels and the option to rent films. The beds were extremely comfortable and all heating/air con facilities in the room were easy to use.
Prior to our stay I had booked a table in the Market Brasserie for the Pre-show set menu which consisted of 2 courses and a glass of prosecco for only £25 which is so so worth it! We both had the Crab Linguine which was very tasty, and I went for the chocolate pudding whilst my mother had the fruity option, both delicious. The service was very fast which was great, and there were always enough staff around asking if they could get you anything etc. there are several other restaurants and bars within the hotel which we didn’t get a chance to use.
As we left the hotel to make our way to the O2 Arena the hotel provided us with a free transfer to the Arena which was totally unexpected but very appreciated! The hotel really do think of everything, and this was such a nice touch to the already outstanding service they had provided us. FYI Adele was absolutely incredible!
After a brilliant night’s sleep in the superior quality beds, and after indulging a little too much in the cake left in our room we were back in the Market Brasserie for breakfast. This was buffet style and was without a shadow of doubt the best buffet breakfast I have ever had. The food was so tasty, fresh and hot! The options were endless, cooked breakfast, continental, juices, coffee, tea, yogurts, fruit, it really did have something for everyone.
As we had the late 2pm check out, we took full advantage of the spa/pool facilities and I booked my mum in for an express facial which she said was great and was left totally relaxed! The pool area had such a great ambience, sadly the steam room was out of use but the sauna was great and the changing/shower facilities were excellent. At one point we were the only 2 guests using the facilities which was great.
I cannot fault the hotel at all, there were no issues which is surprising as the hotel had only been open for a few months. I will 100% be returning if/when I have another concert at the O2 Arena.
